Vacation Workout

Vacations are in full swing and the respite from the normal day to day schedule is welcome!  For me summer is just as busy driving kids from place to place as it is during the school year.  The only thing missing is not having to worry about packing lunches.  Vacation is a chance for me to relax if only for a few days.  Depending on where we go for vacation, exercise can take a back seat for a variety of reasons: no equipment, no room, no time.   Don't let that happen next time you are vacationing!  Here is a quick, effective and do anywhere workout!  Happy Fourth of July!

Option 1 (inside or nowhere to run/walk)

Download a tabata timer on your phone (there are free versions available)

Do the first exercise twice, the second exercise twice then repeat.  

  1. Burpees/Push-ups

  2. Star Jumps (Do this one all 8 times. It is the hardest interval but will create afterburn or Epoc (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption).  You will burn 60 calories while you are exercising and 260 calories in the 2 hours after exercising.)

  3. Front Lunges/Side to Side Ski

  4. Mountain Climbers/Squat  Jumps

Always remember to add a warm-up and cool down to each exercise session!

 Option 2 (running/walking is available)

  1. Run/walk for 5 minutes

  2. Do a Tabata interval of Burpees/Push-ups

  3. Run/walk for 5 minutes

  4. Do a Tabata interval of Front lunges/Side to Side Skis

  5. Run/walk for 5 minutes

  6. Do a Tabata interval of Mountain Climbers/Squat Jumps

Always remember to add a warm-up and cool down to each exercise session!
