The Magic of Small Groups
Small group training has gained popularity in recent years. Why do people flock to this type of training? The simple answer is camaraderie. We live in a world where we can potentially have very little human interaction and joining a group especially appeals to people. However, small groups are not just for exercise. Think about other small groups like book clubs, weight loss groups or mom’s groups. They all capitalize on the same need for support from others in a similar situation. The benefits of small groups are endless but a few that come to mind are:
Support- One feels a sense of support and understanding from those in similar situations.
Accountability- One is more likely to stick to a program if there are others going through it with them who will hold them accountable.
Camaraderie- Friendships are likely to develop when people are going through a program together.
As a group exercise instructor I have personally witnessed the power of small groups in the fitness world. In my Tabata Bootcamps I have seen groups of strangers come together for the common purpose of getting fitter and losing weight. What happpens in the eight weeks we are together, however, is so much more! I see friendships develop, encouragement occurring and group members calling others out if they miss a class which encourages them to attend the classs regularly. Sometimes I think they bond the most over their simultaneous love and hate of me and the class! Whatever works right! I have witnessed amazing transformations in my students bodies and in their mental fortitude and I can attribute it all to the benefits of small groups. The super support small group culture that these groups generate is amazing! Try one, I promise you won’t regret it!
